1. I’ve managed to convince myself that intent is the driving force that allows me to write and behave the way that I do, and that the actions I take will be seen as attempting to deconstruct any sort of -ist behavior and that I’m aware (to the point of anxiety) of the weight behind every single word that I use. I figure that if people are offended by my actions, I must acknowledge and process their offense but at the same time steel my decisions with the understanding that I am both privileged (and so not in a position to justify my actions) and educated (in a position to internally justify my actions because of what I know that I know.)

I guess that I could avoid all this by being truly and wholly hilarious. And never stop reading and learning and making sure that I’m on the right side of history. I will say that the mere fact that I have friends is reassuring.

(But the bothersome question still stands: am I different from those with “intent” she writes about?)
