Drake, “Crew Love ft. The Weeknd (Young L remix)”

Here’s some violent space-age R&B to keep your re-entry to the workweek feelin’ smooth. Sweeping electro chords, sprinkles of piano, and glitchy sample cuts holding their own against not-quite-dubstep drum hits, and the only words I can make out from the pitched-up verse are “light-skinned chick.” This remix evokes that way a long night out can dilate an hour into years and let the next three dip before you know it. The half-speaker effect that shows up at the end feels like you’re missing half of the party itself. It’s a weird remix, unpredictable and doing a lot with what feels like only a few elements, but I keep returning to it.

  2. I remember hearing RnB on the radio when I listened to 95.5 THE BEAT!!! in like 2002 and wondering why anyone would ever dig such sentimental schlocky mess (with the exception of Usher, obviously.)

Fast forward a decade and this is some of the coolest, sexiest music I know. This is just realer than those Celine Dion wannabes that came before. Download this album. Download all of The Weeknd for free at that link. D’load it. Get to d-loadin
