“Diplo - Bird Is The Word (Unofficial Music Video)”
well this doesn’t manage quite the unstoppable cinematography of “Express Yourself’s” unceasing Ass-jellos, but it highlights some motherfucking juke that feels like trance with the hard edge of, idk, favela music and some electro and some hiphop ghettoblasts
BABYMETAL - いいね
Everytime I forget how much I love Japan, they produce a music video with three tween pop idols bouncing around to death metal and featuring a hip-hop breakdown. Then I double forget how much I love Japan because of the severe amnesia and disassociation that occurs.
Diplo, “Express Yourself feat. Nicky Da B”
In spite of Nicky Da B’s lithe dancemoves, this isn’t a video that’s good for you. Just as Diplo passes out at the end, (no doubt a bball + cigarette overdose,) these girls must be shattering spinal cords with their own vices.
I’ve watched this video like four times and have not processed it yet. Unspeakable ass-jiggle features prominently. Horn-y melodies and bouncing synths. I freak out over the dudebro in the convenience store who does the head dance equivalent of speaking in tongues. I leave this video feeling like I grew up devoid of local culture. And I probably did.
Wax, “Need”
This quick-lipped rap attack is opening for Hoodie Allen on his tour of the States. I like the sentiment and the production value is top notch (I’m surprised I’d never heard of Wax before) but I can’t shake that damn near every rhyme is one syllable and … unchallenging. It’s good to have a devout non-materialist in hip-hop but the wordplay feels slapped together. I guess I’ll have to listen to more Wax!
Canceling spring break
Staying home to watch the premiere of the full music video on Mar. 13th
Worth it.
Early Bird Special: Electronic popster Pierre-Alexandre Busson (AKA Yuksek) has some fun with shapes and mirrors in the OK Go-esque music video for his latest single, “Off the Wall.”

This is the sort of art we should be making with our Photobooth shots, not just the same picture of our pose-amused face 25 times.
Zebra Katz - Ima Read (ft.Njena Reddd Foxxx)
You can’t simply lump together haunting imagery and the most basic of contrasts between educational language and hip-hop posturing without saying something. I don’t like this because there’s barely a song here; just a SUPER IN YOUR FACE COMPARISON and little else. No expanding on the concept, just repetition.
I’m bothered because people read this as provocative, and I don’t usually delve into the things I don’t like on Wampoholic but in another world this could have been a very cool video.
They always know how to combine the pastoral and the threatening. It’s Sleigh Bells, ladies and gents.
I kinda want to be Derek.
Basshunter, “All I Ever Wanted”
HAHA THIS VIDEO IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD
The Arcade Fire, “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”
I love music videos because they’re the only form of visual art that doesn’t really need meaning to it. Sometimes it can just be a bunch of shit you’ve never seen before in your life and never would see, and it turns out beautiful. It also helps when the song you use is the pinnacle of Arcade Fire’s discography.
No Age, “Fever Dreaming”
This video is such a simple and effective idea that I’m shocked it’s never been done before. They probably wanted to do this in a house at first but discovered that the only house that would work was ware style.
I also love the distortion screaming at the conclusion of each section of the verse. Like love it. SUPER LOVE.
Lil Wayne, “6 Foot 7 Foot”
I simply can’t believe that this is the first time in hip-hop music video history where the director said to himself “what if we just provide literal interpretations of the rhymes?” This is basically Weezy’s version of “On To The Next One.” If Jay-Z is an art film, Lil Wayne is a cartoon.
I’m ripping videos straight from Pitchfork’s Best Music Videos of 2011 so go check that out if you don’t want me to spoonfeed you my faves.
Azealia Banks, “212”
I hadn’t seen the video for this yet and it is so fun and silly! The two of them practically doing it like Bernie in front of the brick wall forced me to smile, which is kinda weird given the song’s content.
須藤元気(Genki Sudo)「WORLD ORDER」の”MACHINE CIVILIZATION”“>須藤元気(Genki Sudo)「WORLD ORDER」の”MACHINE CIVILIZATION”
I am mesmerized. The great part is how chill all this j-pop is, I feel like I could study to it. The music, not the video.
… Maybe I could study this video.

Not really sure where the song ends and the artist begins in that title there, but rest assured that I’m going to spend my winter break watching every single Japanese pop music video that I can find.
